FAQ

Want to get in touch with Jarroba.com?

Write to us at jarrobaweb@gmail.com. Only for things we don’t already offer on the website (see the next question).

Does the Jarroba team answer questions privately?

We answer questions about the topics we cover in the comments of each article, never privately. We do it this way for several reasons:

  1. We try to answer everything asked on the website fairly quickly.
  2. If we answered privately, the rest of the community would never see the solution.
  3. We want our help to reach as many people as possible, and that only happens if it’s public.
  4. We don’t work on the website full time (we wish we did). We have other jobs that pay the bills; the ads only cover the server.

In other words: email is for what we don’t offer on the website (collaborations, sponsorships, reports of errors on the website itself…).

What kind of content does Jarroba.com have?

Jarroba was born to explain technical computing in a simple and complete way, for any audience: what is usually taught in a very technical way at university, at companies, or in official documentation, told in an enjoyable way and without leaving gaps.

Not all articles are at the same level. Some depend on what’s explained in others or need prior knowledge; when that’s the case, the article says so, and long topics are grouped into series with their parts in order.

How do I find what I’m looking for?

On the home page you can filter articles by category by tapping the colored circles, and open the search with the magnifying glass or the / key. The search understands both single words and questions in your own words (“how to store key value pairs in java”). At the end of each article you’ll find related articles and, when there are any, tools to practice with.

Can I write whatever I want in the comments?

Comments are for asking questions, solving them, and helping others. A few common-sense rules:

  1. Be respectful and mind your manners (no shouting in capitals, please).
  2. No advertising, unrelated links, or trolling.
  3. Don’t post personal data, yours or anyone else’s. If it appears, we’ll delete it.
  4. Nothing illegal, offensive, or that infringes the rights of others.
  5. We don’t do complete assignments: if you paste the statement of a school assignment, we won’t give you the finished solution, but we will guide you so you learn.

We may moderate or delete comments that don’t follow these rules (see the legal notice). We reply as soon as we can, usually within a day or two; and anyone can answer others, which is a great way to learn.

Are Jarroba’s articles reliable?

Each article comes from years of experience, hours of work and research, and the bibliography that goes with it. Even so, information may be missing or there may be typos: we appreciate any correction in the comments of the article itself.

We recommend checking other sources too; not out of distrust, but because that way you’ll have the most complete information possible. We are not responsible for how the content is used.

Do you use artificial intelligence?

Yes, as a tool, and we want to be clear about it:

  • We make the articles ourselves. What to tell, the approach, the examples, and the conclusions come from our experience. In the older articles, written by hand, AI has only been used to improve them (typos, presentation). In the new ones we use it more, but there’s always a person behind it who decides what has to come out, guides the work from what they know, and reviews the result.
  • The English versions are translated with the help of AI from the Spanish original.
  • We also use AI for support tasks: fixing typos, writing the search engine descriptions and the alt text of images, creating some icons, and helping the search and the related articles understand what’s being asked.

Can I use Jarroba.com’s content? What license does it have?

Jarroba.com’s content is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0:

Do I have to pay to share something from Jarroba.com?

No. Everything can be shared for free as long as you respect the license above. If you’d like to sponsor us, write to us at jarrobaweb@gmail.com.

Can a third party make a claim against me for quoting Jarroba.com articles?
