Android Error: The Android SDK Won’t Let You Update
Android SDK update failing with a 'folder failed to be renamed or moved' warning? Learn why it happens and two simple ways to fix it.
When you try to update the Android SDK packages, a window pops up with the following message:
-= Warning ! =-
A folder failed to be renamed or moved. On Windows this typically means that a program is using that folder (for example Windows Explorer or your anti-virus software.)
Please momentarily deactivate your anti-virus software or close any programs that may be accesing the
directory 'C:XXXXXXXX'.
When ready, press YES to try again.
Along with it, the "Android SDK Manager Log" shows this message:
Failed to rename directory C:XXXXXXXX to C:YYYYYYYYYY.
And no matter how many times you click the "Yes" button, the update installation won’t move forward.
Solution 1
As the message says, some program is accessing the folder.
Most likely it’s Eclipse, which is accessing those files. So close it, wait a few seconds, and click "Yes" in the dialog that asks you to try again. The installation should now continue as normal.
Solution 2
It could be Windows Explorer itself. Restart your computer (or use a program that unlocks the file mentioned in the dialog) and try downloading the SDK update again.
