How to use
What it's worth today

With the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) that Eurostat publishes every month: X € in one month equals X × index(to) ÷ index(from). If you also enter today's amount (your salary, a rent, what your fund is worth), it tells you whether you have gained or lost purchasing power, which is what matters, not the nominal rise.

The HICP is not your national CPI

The harmonised index is the one for comparing EU countries and the one the ECB watches; each country's national CPI weights things differently and differs by a few tenths. To update a contract, use the index the contract names: for a rent in Spain, the INE's CPI or the IRAV, not this one.
